As mediocre as it is, I used to think that Sam Kee was one of the better dim sum restaurants in the south bay. Better than Canton Delights, Ocean Harbor, Hong Sing, etc. Mayflower is OK but a little far from work. Forget Furama. If I'm going to drive that far, I may as well head north to Milbrae. I never thought it was that hot anyways.
I just found a new favorite - Joy Luck Place, behind 99 Ranch on Wolfe/Homestead. Food was tasty and fresh. Prices are a little higher than Sam Kee but well worth it IMHO. Lunch for two was ~$28 + tip. We did have crab claws and scallop dumplings...
Prices for the dishes:
small - $2.00
medium - $2.80
large - $3.60
This was my first visit. Until it proves me wrong, I probably won't be back to Sam Kee.
So how does it compare to HKFL, Fook Yuen, et al? It's still a notch below the best Milbrae/Burlingame dim sum houses. BTW, my benchmark is the _old_ HKFL in Burlingame.
