Redneck Earl's Cowboy Takeout on El Camino Real near 23rd in San Mateo is about the only choice I know of.

It's not bad, though the menu is limited. So is seating so it really is a takeout place. It's Texas-style with a tomato, chili powder-based sauce on the side. Potato salad, but no slices of wonder bread though.

I like their brisket when I can have it.

I was there about a year ago, and their pizza was among the very best I've had. The place is Nirvana for deep-dish pizza aficionados (I guess that's what "Chicago style" means), and they have a selection of several microbrews on tap along with the obligatory proletarian swill.

The only downside is that the place gets very crowded (I was only there once, but a friend who'd been there many times told me the crowding was par for the course). And as with any pizza restaurant, the Minivan Culture is strongly in evidence (read: there are lots of noisy little kids about). But I found that after my second Red Hook, the noise was reasonably tolerable.

Windy City Pizza is on the west side of El Camino Real in San Mateao just north of Hwy. 92, in the same shopping center as the Lyon's coffee shop that's visible from the street. Oh, and said Lyon's has a comfy lounge, if one is inclined toward a quiet after-dinner dram.
