I visited Bacar for the first time on Saturday. I thought their menu was surprisingly limited for such a huge restaurant: three meat entrees and three fish entrees. I remember the priciest fish entree ($38) was chunks of Maine lobster, still in the shell, stir-fried in a wok. We passed on that and instead enjoyed wonderful oysters, an uninspired salad, a rich, creamy gnochi, and a very tasty osso buco. The food and setting of Bacar reminded me of MC Squared (which is not a bad thing, IMHO).

Bacar's wine menu is tremendous. There must have been something like 100 wines by the glass. You can also order 250 ml or 500 ml carafes, which are a better deal. We had a small carafe of a forgettable Rhone and another carafe of delicious '97 Newton Claret. Gotta get me some more of that.

Overall, I thought it was pretty impressive, especially for wine. Arnold Wong seems to have the midas touch. Still, I think I prefer the more adventurous, Asian fusionesque menu at EOS.
