The two best Chinese restaurants in the Bay Area south of SF (no arguments, please, since that's a side issue) are in Millbrae plus San Bruno (just north). One is the Hong Kong Flower Lounge - the original location is on the west side of El Camino about 1 to 2 miles north of Millbrae Avenue their second location, a glitzier-looking place, is on the corner of El Camino and Millbrae. The second restaurant is Fook Yuen, on the west side of El Camino about 4 blocks north of Millbrae. Both focus (although not exclusively) on Cantonese. In addition, the Flower Lounge has excellent dim sum - the best I've found on the peninsula. So, if you like Chinese food, you've lucked out.

My favorite Thai restaurant in the western world is Bua Tong, on Broadway in Burlingame. Take the Burlingame/Broadway exit from 101 and head away from the bay. Bua Tong is on the right, about 1 1/2 blocks before El Camino Real. Family-run (aren't most of them?) - neat and clean premises in an old building - flavors consistent for almost ten years - really great Thai food. Also, you'll meet probably the tallest Thai family in the area (the two brothers that wait tables are over 6 ft). I highly recommend the place.

Cheers,
Phil
