Lots of seafood dishes and even enough dishes that were "not sushi or seafood" to keep a friend of mine happy. Said friend and I have a tradition of going there for Christmas (the resturant is filled with us Jews :-))...this will make year 4. The sushi there is as good as any of the reasonably placed places I've gone to. I've had much worse many times. I'm sure you can get it better if you go to a really good (expensive) resturant, but I don't have the expertise to comment. There is a decent selection but not huge. Maybe 6 kinds of plain fish, 3-4 vegetable, 2-3 seafood salad, egg, and a couple of others like california rolls. Naturally, I'm spacing on the name. It starts with an M, which makes it easy to confuse with Miyake's. It's on the corner of Park and University (I think it's Park...it's the very first street east of El Camino). Miyake's is on the southwest corner and the place we are talking about is on the southeast corner. It's set back from the street. Plenty of parking behind it on Park. Expect to pay around $15 on weekdays and $17 on weekends. Can't remember if they count holidays as weekends. You could do worse than Sushi Sam's, down town san mateo. Very good value IMO, but most always a wait. Don't know abt reservations. -- Rich Fuchs [email removed] (Research Libraries Group)
