It's a bit out of the way from Palo Alto, but you might want to try Todai, recently opened in Eastgate Mall down in San Jose a few miles south of the airport. I'd heard good things about this all-you-can-eat chain from friends in LA, and this is their first branch up here. Others are scheduled to open in the next year in North San Jose, San Francisco, and somewhere in the East Bay that I'm forgetting. Price is a bit higher than the all-you-can-eat places mentioned ($12.95 for weekend lunch, $11.95 for weekday lunch, and I believe around $20ish for dinner, not including drinks), but I was impressed by the quality and variety of the fish relative to said other all you can eat places. Extra points for having spicy tuna rolls which I particularly like. Wide variety of hot dishes and salads as well, and the sushi is replaced quickly and so is quite fresh. Drawback is that when I went there shortly after they opened back on Halloween it was quite crowded on a Sunday afternoon and there was a 15 minute wait. Not up to fantastic non-all-you-can-eat sushi levels, but considerably a cut above the other all-you-can-eat sushi places on the penisula. tyg [email removed]
