Some of the best Chinese food I've had, oddly enough, is here on the
campus in the Price Center (the UCSD Student Union complex) at Chung
 King Loh.

Okay. Okay. Stop laughing. I'm serious.

While the cafeteria style fare is probably what you'd expect,
some of the special dishes that you have to wait for are good to
excellent. It turns out that the owner of the franchise, Molly
(sorry, I don't recall her full name), who emigrated from China (by
way of South America, but that's another story) used to own a pretty
good Chinese restaurant in Solana Beach, up the coast about 10 miles
or so, for those not familiar with San Diego county geography.

Of course, it may help that I usually go there with my boss, the
Director of this Resource, who, for years, was a regular customer at
the restaurant when he was a starving Assistant Professor. Things
that aren't on the menu have a way of just "showing up." :-)

Another favorite place, this one a bit more traditional, is King's
Garden, in Solana Beach. Ask for the Kung Pao Death or the Family
Bean Curd ("Freyder style"). Be prepared to wash it down with a cold
 beer, though!
