Another good word from my sector for Salim's. It's one of the few bright points in the local walking area (Morewood and Centre/Baum). Among my daily lunch choices: KFC, Taco Bell, Burger King, Rally's, Boston Market, 7-11, Einstein's Bagels, and a handful of pizza joints. Salim's is one of the only two places really worth consideration. They do qualify as a real restaurant, if highly informal. They are also a shop: you can order a gyro platter to eat in house, and take a can of grape leaves to munch on later. The other place worth mention is the former House of Sauce, now known as Backyard Barbeque. This small establishment has about 400 square feet of space inside, 300 of which is occupied by a cinder-block and iron-slat grill, standing at least two feet off a bed of charcoal. On top lives a field of meat being prepared for the next day (or perhaps the next week). From the hold pile, you can order a rack of pork ribs, a rack of beef ribs, or a barbequeued chicken. It's not dirt cheap, but you do get buttered Wonder bread on the side. I consider this to be an epic joint, one that everyone should dare to visit at least once on every culinary tour of the city.
