Lockhart is not exactly close to Austin. Hoewever, it is the Nirvana of BBQ for Texas. Kruez's (reportedly a second location due to a family fuss), Brown's (salt, pepper, and post oak), and Chisolm Trail are worthy of a pilgramage. Also Cooper's and a couple of others around Llano are respectable as far as Texas is concerned (read, the best on the planet).

30 miles is not far at all to experience this kind of BBQ or this kind of town with its three wonderful places for BBQ. "Nirvana" is a good word to use. I will be going from Georgetown to Lockhart which is 60+ miles, and I can hardly wait.

Too bad the sister, who inherited the building,(She got the building, the others got the business) is raising the rent to an unacceptable level, and is driving her brothers out. It is said she is going to open her own BBQ place in her building, thereby gaining all that atmosphere.
