Try Gridley's for ribs, located on Macon in a shopping center location on the periphery of Memphis. I wish I could remember the exact address, but it's 6xxx Macon, if that helps. Call directory assistance for more info.

This place has the best ribs I have EVER had. I haven't been able to tolerate ribs since I returned to the Bay Area after my cross-country road trip. You haven't lived until you've been to Gridley. I'd recommend, for the hearty eater, a bowl of seafood gumbo, followed by the combo platter (ribs - dry or wet - and a big mound of chopped pork). UNBELIEVABLE!

Charlie Vergo's Rendezvous on Second Street near the Peabody Hotel downtown apparently invented dry ribs, but they were closed when we passed through town, so I don't have a personal opinion. It comes highly recommended by Jane and Michael Stern in their book _Roadfood_.
