There's not a lot of great southern places here that are also cheap. Acme Bar and Grill on Great Jones is okay. Arizona 206 on E.60th is quite good but pricier. For barbecue, Zacki's Carolina Pit on Second Ave in the 90s is reputed to be about the best in Manhattan and it's also under $20. Rib purists say that Pearson's in Queens is the best in the city though.

It's not real cheap, but if you can get someone to take you out, go to Jezebel's at the corner of 9th Avenue and 45th Street in Manhattan. Trust me, it's there.
