Someone wrote: I am interested in recommendations for restaurants in both Sydney & Cairns, Australia. If anyone has any information, I would appreciate it! I can exchange info on restaurants in San Francisco if wanted. Chad, In Sydney, for something really uncommon, there's Riberries Taste Australia (411 Bourke St., tel 011-612-361-4929 from U.S.) Imagine trendy/yuppie Calif. cusine type presentation of "bush" ingredients -- berries, nuts, grasses, wallabie (yes, the mini-kangaroo), emu, etc., etc. It's a bit controversial, and I believe has been picketed by those who disapprove of eating kangaroo. It's also extremely tasty, and I can about guarantee you won't find anything like it in the U.S. It's a small place, and they told us that getting reservations in advance would be a good idea. Also, if you'll be in Sydney for more than 3 or 4 nights, a little book called Sydney Restaurant Survey, published by Horan, Wall and Walker, can save you its price in just a meal or two. It also steered us to a fine Thai place, Bai Yok Thai Restaurant at 330 Pacific Highway, which turned out to be smack in the middle of an ethnic restaurant row in the Crow's Nest area. This info is about 15 months old. Enjoy! Carrie From X Wed Nov 9 21:13:16 EST 1994 Article: 11459 of rec.food.restaurants
