Hello Ann..

My wife and I recently visited the Phoenix area and throughly enjoyed the dining we experienced there.

Here are the places we tried:

Ianuzzis (I've butchered the spelling, sorry): 34000 N. Scottsdale Rd. (this is about a half hour drive from downtown Scottsdale). Features Northern Italian food, with a beautiful, stylish decor. Fine art, in fact. Good wine list, great appetizers (the calamari is a full meal in itself!). Entrees are excellent - I had the tenderloin in a reduced dijon & cognac sauce, my wife had the filet with gorganzola cheese. Outstanding! Jovial and *very* Italian host. Highly reccommended. Dress : casual - but not too casual. Cost: $150 with tip for 2.

Don & Charlie's [Ribs] in Scottsdale. Easy to find. The ultimate in sports bars/restaurants. Don [Carson] is the same guy who has Carson's Ribs in Chicago. Very nice stuff - decent wine list (!). Their ribs are the type that hug the bone instead of falling off. Enjoyed the meal here. Very casual. Cost: around $70 with tip for 2

Sam's Grill : Downtown Phoenix in the Arizona Center. Great (and very potent) Margaritas - excellent appetizers. Nice outdoor patio with birds everywhere begging for table scraps. Very, very nice - perfect for happy hour after a day of shopping sightseeing, etc..

The India Palace : Downtown Scottsdale (on Indian School Road?) Wonderful Indian food. Quiet, soothing, very pleasant decor. Charming waiter (a seik - with the turban and bracelets..). We tried the lunch buffet and were very pleased. Delicious. Cost: cheap (buffet was around $6).

My wife and I were very surprised with the culinary offerings that we tried - she and I eat at a lot of fine restaurants..

BTW, on your way out to Ianuzzis (or on your way back) stop at the Gainey Resort and be prepared to be flabergasted at its opulence..

Hope this helps..

Los Olivos, at the bottom of the Mall in Old Town Scottsdale. It's supposedly one of the oldest Mexican restaurants ...
