   You don't mention his budget, or whether he'll have
transportation...or where he'll be staying/located. However, given that he may like "just good food" - and is mobile - I'll suggest some of my favorites:

  - The Cork and Cleaver (44th & Camelback): wonderful beef & seafood,
the finest salad bar in the West, and a pleasant, interesting atmosphere. $$
  - Christo's (7th Street, north of Bethany Home): wonderful Northern
Italian food, somewhat formal, small and packed - reservations needed. $$$
  - Our Gang Cafe (7th Street & Mountain View): great italian food;
excellent specials; casual, "New York neighborhood" styled place with wonderful patio (outside, year-round) eating (indoors, too), inexpensive. $$
  - Que Pasa (7th Street & Glendale): inexpensive neighborhood Mexican
restaurant, casual, high-quality meats, _not_ authentic (spicy or hot). $$
  - The Other Place (Lincoln & Scottsdate roads): long-standing and known
for Prime Rib, beef, seafood. $$$
  - Reata Pass (30 miles north of Scottsdale): famous for traditional
"Cowboy Steaks" and local atmoshpere. Very casual, wonderful steaks. Wear jeans and log-sleeve shirt. $$ (Note: the "other" such place, which you'll pass on the way (Pinnacle Peak Patio) is very "touristy", not as good, has "shootouts", is very commercial...and will cut off the tie of any man who wears one in there. Kinda fun, but not worth it. even as a joke...

I've always enjoyed The Havana Cafe (Spanish/Cuban). I haven't been there for more than a year, so I can't say if it is still good or not. The Paella Valenciana was very good.
