salad - following is the list of restaurants
our readers' have chosen* for:

Best "Succulent Salads & Salad Bars" in the Phoenix Area

The Winners were (in alphabetical order):
Anzio's
========
This little Italian joint just off I-17 and Cactus hit high marks with our readers for their terrific antipasto salad. It's cheap, huge, and tasty. You can get a half-order or share a whole order with a friend and be quite satisfied, $4.50 at lunch, $4.75 dinner. The salad is piled high with cheese, deli meats, olives, and a few jalapeno, giving it a perfect edge. Garlic bread dripping in butter, parmesan, and herbs help you scoop up this masterpiece. We're told that the feature that puts it over the top for the dressing on the side crowd, is they give you your own bottle of homemade dressing to garnish your salad at will, and the creamy Italian rules. Anzio's is open for Lunch (around $5) and Dinner (about $7), All week 11:00am-10:00pm. They also offer catering services. (602) 375-1221 -- 12418 N 28th Drive, Phoenix

Souper Salad
=============
Our reader's tell us Souper Salad empowers you to make the killer salad. Combine this with a soup bar, good dessert, bottom-less drinks and a great price, you can't fork-up (sorry, couldn't resist). One of the nice things about Souper Salad is, if you are looking for just a salad bar you don't have to pay for the other frills like other salad bar and buffet joints. The all-you-can-eat salad bar costs $3.99, add soup for a total of $4.79. Open for Lunch and Dinner (from $4 - $6) Monday - Saturday from 11:00am - 9:00pm and Sunday from 11:30am - 8:30pm. (602)350-9170 -- 837 S Mill Ave, Tempe (602)491-8008 -- 1180 W Elliot Road, Tempe (602)494-7656 -- 4605 E Cactus Road, Phoenix (602)955-6844 -- 2045 E Camelback Road, Phoenix (602)678-5465 -- 10005 N Metro Parkway East, Phoenix (602)840-5686 -- 2651 N 44th Street, Phoenix

Sweet Tomatoes
================
Sweet Tomatoes is populating like rabbits and our readers could not be more pleased. One lone location in Tempe has given birth to three additional locations spread surprisingly evenly throughout the valley. Sweet Tomatoes is superior in our readers' opinions because it has a gourmet flair not usually found at the typical salad bar. Sweet Tomatoes has more than iceberg lettuce. They actually provide curly endive, escarole, romaine and other green beauties. The toppings are wide in variety and chopped up properly so that they are easy to eat and mix into your salad. Their prepared salads, such as poppy seed coleslaw, classic Caesar, and artichoke rice, are not just the leftover treats from yesterday either . The breads provided are more than your standard roll as well. They provide you with picks such as Indian Grain, 3-cheese foccacias, and sourdough. OK, if you're not convinced yet, how about topping it all of with a hot gooey chocolate chip cookie? Sweet Tomatoes is open from 11:00 am to 10:00pm, Monday thru Saturday, 11:00am - 9:00pm on Sunday. Lunch is $5.99 and Dinner is $6.99, all-you-can-eat of course. Extensive catering menu available. (602)487-0307 -- 7565 W Bell Road, Peoria (602)274-5414--52 E Camelback Road, Phoenix (602)991-6010 -- 9029 E Indian Bend Road, Scottsdale (602)831-1600 -- 1410 E Southern Ave, Tempe
