Turkeys and cornstalks were a favorite pairing on American holiday postcards, and this embossed card belongs to the wave of Thanksgiving designs printed in the early twentieth century, when the holiday was becoming a fixed national observance. Embossing gave the surface a raised, tactile quality, so the bird's feathers and the ears of corn stand out from the background in a way flat lithography could not match. Cards like this were mailed between relatives and friends during the November season, and their bright colors and harvest imagery reflect a popular taste for seasonal greetings that helped shape how Americans pictured the holiday.
