Elmer E. Vance's *The Limited Mail* takes its name from the fast express trains that had become a symbol of modern travel by the late 1890s. This poster, printed around 1899 by the U.S. Printing Company in Cincinnati and New York, promoted the play to audiences in the touring theater circuit. Railroad melodramas like this one were a staple of the period, often built around dramatic train scenes and rescues that drew crowds. Looking at the poster today shows how theater advertising of the era leaned on bold color and the excitement of the locomotive.
