Two rabbits share the center of this Easter card, one of them holding a large blue egg as if presenting it to the viewer. Easter greeting cards like this became popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, when printers in Europe and North America produced cheap chromolithographed cards that let families send seasonal wishes by post. Rabbits and eggs were already folk symbols of spring and fertility, and by this period they had settled into the familiar pairing that still defines the holiday's imagery today. Blue eggs were a less common choice than pastel yellow or pink, which makes this card a little more unusual among its peers.
