A woman with a grinning jack-o'-lantern is the focus of this Halloween postcard, a holiday card type that was especially popular in the early twentieth century. Embossed and brightly colored cards like this one were mailed as greetings and often showed witches, black cats, and pumpkins in bold, stylized art. Pairing a figure with a carved pumpkin reflects the custom of jack-o'-lanterns, which in America grew into the central symbol of the holiday. Notice how the lettering and decorative borders reflect the printing methods of the era.
