Slugger Johnny Mize, nicknamed "The Big Cat," is the figure here, shown as a convert to a cigar that promised the flavor of Havana. Mize was a powerful first baseman who played for the St. Louis Cardinals, New York Giants, and New York Yankees and later entered the Baseball Hall of Fame. Mid-century tobacco advertisers often paired cigars with famous athletes to borrow their credibility, and the appeal to Havana leaned on the long prestige of Cuban tobacco in American markets.
