A small flock of chickens and playthings frames the greeting in this c1908 photographic print, which pairs the Easter subject with the toy props that mark it as a holiday scene. The Rotograph Co. of New York published it, and the copyright entry shows it was registered with the U.S. Copyright Office as an individual work. Around 1900 to 1910, studio photographers and New York publishers like Rotograph often produced staged sentimental scenes like this one for greeting cards and postcards. Such images were meant to be sent to friends and family, so the wish printed on it mattered as much as the picture.
