The only identifying detail here is the caption "J. Collins," which the Library of Congress notes was taken from unverified information on the negative or its caption card, so who or what it refers to remains uncertain. The negative belongs to the George Grantham Bain Collection, made by the Bain News Service, a New York agency founded in 1899 that supplied news photographs to newspapers. Its glass negatives, many from the early twentieth century, cover politics, sports, theater and street life, and captions were often written quickly, which is why names and dates in the records are sometimes incomplete.
