The title, Anne Bolsford Cornstock, comes from caption cards or notes the Bain News Service wrote, and the Library of Congress lists it as unverified, so the spelling may not be reliable. The picture survives as a glass negative no larger than 5 by 7 inches, a small format common in the agency's work. George Grantham Bain founded the New York service around 1899 to supply newspapers with photographs of people and events, and his negatives give a useful record of American life in the early twentieth century. No date is recorded for this image, so its exact year remains unknown.
