Few things set this card apart from the other red, white and blue greetings on the board like an airship drifting across a Fourth of July scene. The caption "The Day We Celebrate" was a common line on patriotic cards of the early 1900s, when postcards were a popular way to send holiday wishes by mail. Airships were still a novelty then, so artists often used them to suggest progress and American ingenuity, and pairing one with the national holiday gave the card a forward-looking feel. The printed lettering and color work also show how these cards were made before modern photographic reproduction became common.
