Autumn light settles over a Connecticut farm near Farmington in this chromolithograph, which shows a pond, open fields, and a cluster of farm buildings in one quiet view. The record credits the landscape painter James McDougal Hart alongside L. Prang & Co., the Boston firm that issued the print around 1870. Prang was among the best-known American makers of color prints at the time, and pictures like this brought painted rural scenes into middle-class homes. Its calm, harvest-season mood suits the gallery's Thanksgiving theme.
