Rather than a camera portrait, this print reproduces a painting by Elizabeth Shoumatoff, who was working on Franklin D. Roosevelt's likeness at Warm Springs, Georgia, when he died in April 1945. The painting was left unfinished and became known as the *Unfinished Portrait*, and its image has been widely reproduced as a record of his last days. The print's 1946 date and copyright registration show it circulating in the years after his death, when images of the late president remained in steady demand.
