Printed in New York in 1865, this lithograph depicts the deathbed of Abraham Lincoln, and its title fixes the moment at 7:22 on the morning of Saturday, April 15. Lincoln had been shot the previous night at Ford's theater in Washington and was carried across the street to the Petersen House, where he remained unconscious until he died. Currier & Ives sold inexpensive lithographs to a broad public, so images like this one let people far from Washington share in the national grief.
