The Geranium Fairy gift tag sheet belongs to the Victorian and Edwardian vogue for printed scrap, the die-cut paper ephemera that people pasted into albums and used to decorate greetings. Fairies were a favorite subject in that trade, and their small winged figures lent themselves to the tiny scale of a gift tag. The Geranium in the title points to the flower motif that appears in many of these sheets, which was a widely used decorative theme of the period. Sheets like this were made to be cut out, so the piece is best understood as a working object of sentiment and craft rather than a fine-art print.
