A rabbit peeks out from a large red egg on this Easter greetings postcard, a pairing of motifs that was common in early twentieth-century holiday cards. Postcards like this one were produced in large numbers from about the 1900s through the 1910s, when the picture postcard was at the height of its popularity and senders often used the small message side to wish friends a happy holiday. The rabbit and egg, both symbols of spring and new life, became standard Easter imagery in this period, and the bold red egg shows how printers used strong color to catch the eye on a crowded rack.
