Titled in French, *En tour* (roughly "on tour" or "out touring"), this color lithograph pairs the automobile with clothing and dress, so the costume is as much the subject as the car. Around 1904, motoring was still a novelty for most Americans, and long trips on unpaved roads meant drivers and passengers wore dusters, caps, veils, and goggles to keep dust off their clothes. The print was issued by F. Vorenberg & Co. of Boston, and it captures the fashionable side of early automobile culture, when touring was as much about being seen as about reaching a destination.
