Easter postcards like this one, showing a child alongside two rabbits, were a popular way to send holiday greetings in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The rabbit's association with Easter came largely from German folk tradition, where the "Osterhase" was said to leave colored eggs for well-behaved children, and the custom spread to America with immigrant communities. Cards of this kind were often printed in color by lithography, with sentimental scenes of children that reflected the era's taste for cheerful, family-centered imagery. Look closely at the details of the lettering and borders, which often reveal the printer and the approximate decade of production.
