Four numbered instructions carry this 1917 color lithograph, which has no pictures: use less wheat and meat, buy local foods, serve just enough, and use what is left. It was issued by the United States Food Administration, a wartime agency created in 1917 to manage food supplies after the country entered World War I. Herbert Hoover led the agency, and its campaigns asked American households to cut back on staples so more could be shipped to Europe and the Allies.
