A German meat storeroom, as the caption card names it, is the subject of this glass negative from the Bain News Service. George Grantham Bain founded the New York agency around 1899 to supply newspapers with news pictures, and its negatives are now held by the Library of Congress. The title comes from unverified caption data and the record gives no date, so the exact year and location remain uncertain. Its value lies in the everyday working detail it preserves from the early twentieth century.
