Chicks in a nest of painted eggs, with a bit of seasonal sentiment printed across the top, make this a classic example of the Easter greeting card. Cards like this one were popular in the early 20th century, when color lithography made it cheap to mass-produce bright, sentimental designs for spring holidays. Baby chicks and eggs had long stood for renewal and new life, and postcards and greeting cards carried these motifs into ordinary households. The word "Eastertide" in the title points to the season after Easter Sunday, a phrase that suggests the card was meant to be sent or kept well into spring.
