A turkey takes center stage on this Thanksgiving Greetings postcard, a motif that became a fixture of American holiday cards in the early twentieth century. Postcards of this kind were cheap, mass-produced and mailed in large numbers, especially during the "golden age" of the picture postcard roughly between 1898 and 1918. Holiday designs like this one often mixed bright color lithography with sentimental wishes, and they show how the turkey shifted from a farm bird into a symbol of harvest abundance and family gathering. Worth noticing is the way the card packs its seasonal message into a single bold image and a few printed words.
