Little beyond the title survives for this glass negative, which places soldiers on Calle de Revilladigego in Mexico. The Bain News Service, a New York agency that supplied news photographs to newspapers, labeled its negatives from information it had not verified, so the exact location and date remain uncertain. The image likely belongs to the years of the Mexican Revolution, roughly 1910 to 1920, when armies moved through towns and cities across the country and photographers recorded the upheaval. Pictures like this one show how military presence reached ordinary city streets during those years.
