Vivienne Osborne was an American stage and film actress whose portrait appears here as a glass negative from the George Grantham Bain Collection at the Library of Congress. Bain News Service, the New York photo agency Bain ran from the early 1900s, sold images of theater people, politicians and news events to newspapers, and its negatives were often captioned on cards that were later lost or mixed up. The record's title comes from that unverified data, so the sitter's identity rests on the agency's labeling rather than a confirmed date or occasion. Osborne was active on Broadway and in silent and early sound films during the 1910s and 1920s, which places this image within the agency's busiest period for stage portraits.
