Fred R. Hamlin's version of *The Wizard of Oz* is a stage production in which the Tin Man is one of the featured characters, a detail that sets this picture apart from the many other Oz images on the board. L. Frank Baum's 1900 book was quickly adapted for the stage, and Hamlin's touring extravaganza was one of the spectacular productions that brought Dorothy's journey to American theater audiences in the early 1900s. Its elaborate costumes and mechanical effects made the characters especially memorable, and the Tin Man's shining metal look has made him a favorite of costume-minded audiences ever since, which is why he fits so naturally in a Halloween collection.
