Thanksgiving postcards were a popular way for people in the early 1900s to send holiday greetings, and this one belongs to that tradition of mass-produced cards decorated with harvest imagery such as cornucopias, autumn leaves, turkeys, and pumpkins. Many of these cards were printed in large runs, often in color lithography, and they were sent between family and friends who lived apart. The holiday itself had only recently been set as a national day of observance in the United States, which helped make the theme a common subject for card makers. Its simple, cheerful imagery reflects how the holiday was being presented to the public at the time.
