Most pictures in this set are named for their subjects, but this one rests on a single title, "Duke of Westmorland," which the Bain News Service recorded on the negative or its caption card. The record does not confirm who is pictured or when the photograph was taken, so the title should be read as the photographer's label rather than a verified identification. The Bain News Service was a New York press agency whose photographers supplied newspapers with pictures of public figures and events in the early twentieth century, and its glass negatives, like this one, are often the only surviving record of those sittings. Westmorland is a long-established English peerage name, which may explain the label.
