The name on this glass negative, Mrs. Roger W. Parkhurst, is unverified. It comes from data the Bain News Service recorded on the negative or its caption card, so the sitter's identity should be treated as provisional. George Grantham Bain's agency, founded in New York around 1899, sold news photographs to newspapers and magazines, and its files hold many portraits of society figures and public people from the 1900s and 1910s. The record gives no date, but glass plates of this small size were the working standard for news and studio photographers before film became common in the 1920s.
